Is ComFree or RocketListings cheaper?

For the listing itself, RocketListings is cheaper at every length. Six months is $149.99 with us, or $119.99 with FREEUPGRADE, against $597 for ComFree Basic. Until sold is $239.99, or $149.99 with FREEUPGRADE, against $1,197 for Guaranteed Sale. Rentals show the same gap, since both companies price a rental like a sale.

ComFree's rental packages are $597 and $997, the same as its sale packages. It has no month-to-month option, and Basic is its only package without signs, legal help or free listing changes; the price table matches plans of a similar length.

ComFree's packages include more than the listing, so compare like with like. Premium and Guaranteed Sale come with a yard sign with a QR code, two directional and two open house signs, on-call support 7 days a week, discounted legal fees and, for Alberta homes, RMS measurements. Guaranteed Sale adds a photographer, a virtual tour, a social media post and the money-back guarantee. If you'd use those, they're part of the price. If you'd take your own photos and don't need a sign, you're paying for the listing alone with us.

Either way, the bigger saving is against a traditional listing commission: our commission calculator shows it for your price. On tax, we add 13% HST. Also weighing PropertyGuys? PropertyGuys vs RocketListings compares the same way.

ComFree vs RocketListings: what's included

Both put your home on the MLS® System and realtor.ca as a mere posting, where buyer agents search, and neither takes a listing commission. The differences are who you sign with, where each one lists and what the package adds: ComFree bundles signs, support and, on its top package, a photographer; we charge for the listing alone.

ComFree's money-back guarantee, explained

ComFree's Guaranteed Sale package refunds its fee only if your home doesn't sell in 6 months with ComFree and then sells later with an agent. The refund is capped at what you paid, up to $1,197, and is processed within 5 days of that later closing. Our plans don't carry a guarantee like this.

In ComFree's words, if your home hasn't sold and you cancel, "the property is to be listed and sold on the MLS with an agent of your choice for the same price or more as you were listed with ComFree" (comfree.com/pricing, October 5, 2026). Two more details from the same page: where no photographer is available, ComFree refunds $100 and you take your own photos, and homes over 3,500 sq. ft. may pay more for photography. If you're unsure how long you'll need, our month-to-month plan at $69.99 lets you stop at any time.

The conditions:

  • 6 months in a row: the home is marketed on ComFree and realtor.ca for 6 consecutive months.
  • Good standing: "with no citations for not showing the home".
  • A later sale with an agent: if you cancel, the home is listed and sold on the MLS® System with an agent, for the same price or more.
  • Proof, then the refund: you send the sold MLS® data sheet, and the refund (up to the package price, $1,197 at most) follows within 5 days of closing.

What happened to ComFree?

ComFree is open and taking listings. Its last owner shut it down in 2023, and the same year Erin and Travis Holowach, the Edmonton couple who ran it in the 2000s, regained control. Its dates differ: the home page says ComFree was established in 1996, and its history post (June 18, 2025) says it was founded in Edmonton in 2002.

The Edmonton Journal (December 19, 2024) tells it this way: the couple were ComFree's Edmonton franchise owners in the early 2000s, bought the national company a few years later, and lost control to an investment firm in 2009. In between, Yellow Pages sold the DuProprio/ComFree network to Purplebricks in 2018 (Purplebricks' announcement, July 2, 2018), and by 2023 the business had been renamed FairSquare Group Realty before it closed. "It has gone through quite a journey," Travis Holowach told the Journal.

Today's ComFree serves British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario from Edmonton, and counts more than 16,000 listings sold on its home page (October 5, 2026).

ComFree reviews

ComFree's reviews are mostly on Google, Reddit and RedFlagDeals, and many older threads describe the company before its 2023 restart, under owners who ran it differently. Read the date first, then look for comments on how quickly the listing went live, how changes were handled and what the package really included.

Threads such as RedFlagDeals' "Is comfree worth it?" (2013) and r/Edmonton's "Has anyone used comfree?" (2017) predate the restart. The most detailed recent account is the Edmonton Journal's: an Edmonton seller, Jeremy Dunlop, had "two offers within three weeks" and said, "I would definitely go that route (ComFree) again." His buyer had an agent, and he negotiated a reduced fee with them.

For RocketListings, the quotes on this page are from real sellers who listed with us, and the numbers near the top are counted live from our records: homes we've listed on the MLS® System, homes sold or leased, and listings live right now.

ComFree coupon and promo codes

We don't publish ComFree's coupon codes, and on October 5, 2026 its pricing page showed no promo code, only the package prices. What ComFree does advertise is cashback for people who buy a home through it, which is for buyers, not sellers. Check comfree.com for any current offer before you pay.

Our own code is FREEUPGRADE. Enter it at checkout, or use any button on this page and it's applied for you: pay for 2 months and get 3, pay for 3 and get 6, or pay for 6 and get MAX. It works on new listings and on listing credits; it doesn't apply to the month-to-month plan.

The code matters most on the longest plan: MAX, which renews free until your home sells, comes for the price of the 6-month plan. That's $149.99 against $1,197 for ComFree's until-sold package.

Switching from ComFree to RocketListings

Moving over from ComFree means a new flat fee MLS® listing with Robin Hood Realty Limited, Brokerage, sent to realtor.ca the way every MLS® listing is. There's no transfer between companies: your old listing ends with them and the new one starts with us. The steps:

  1. End your current listing first. A home normally has only one active listing on a board at a time, so cancel it or let it expire. If you're on Guaranteed Sale, the guarantee needs 6 months in a row with ComFree, so check where you are before you cancel.
  2. Start with us and choose a plan. Use FREEUPGRADE for the next plan up.
  3. Add your details and photos. You can reuse your description, and your photos if you own them.
  4. We enter your home on the MLS® System and email you your new MLS® number when it's live.

ComFree vs RocketListings: questions

What is ComFree?

ComFree (ComFree Realty Inc.) is a flat fee real estate company based in Edmonton that lists homes on the MLS® System and realtor.ca for a one-time package price instead of a commission. It serves British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

Is ComFree legit?

Yes. ComFree has operated since the early 2000s (its site gives 1996 on one page and 2002 on another), counts more than 16,000 listings sold, and appears on B.C.'s brokerage register. As with any flat fee service, read the agreement and recent reviews before you pay.

Is ComFree worth it?

It depends on what you'd use. ComFree's $997 and $1,197 packages are worth it if you want signs, on-call support, discounted legal fees or a photographer bundled in. If you only need the MLS® listing, our plans cost less: $149.99 for 6 months, or $119.99 with FREEUPGRADE, against $597 for ComFree Basic.

Is ComFree still in business?

Yes. Its last owner closed it in 2023, when it was called FairSquare Group Realty, and Erin and Travis Holowach, the Edmonton couple who ran it in the 2000s, regained control the same year (Edmonton Journal, December 19, 2024). On October 5, 2026 it was taking listings in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

How does ComFree work?

You buy a package online, ComFree ships your sign (on Premium and Guaranteed Sale), and your home goes on the MLS® System and realtor.ca as a mere posting. You show the home and take offers yourself. No commission is paid when a buyer comes direct; with a buyer's agent, you may negotiate one.

What is ComFree brokerage?

ComFree Realty Inc. is the company behind ComFree, at 10807-124 Street in Edmonton. It appears on B.C.'s brokerage register (BCFSA). Its listings are mere postings: the brokerage puts your home on the MLS® System, and you handle showings and offers yourself.

Do buyers pay ComFree fees?

No. ComFree's package fees are paid by the seller. ComFree advertises cashback to buyers who buy through it, "$10,000–$25,000+" on average by its home page. If a buyer has their own agent, the seller may negotiate a commission with that agent.

Is RocketListings cheaper than ComFree?

For the listing itself, yes: 6 months is $149.99 with us (or $119.99 with FREEUPGRADE) against $597 for ComFree Basic, and until sold is $239.99 (or $149.99 with FREEUPGRADE) against $1,197 for Guaranteed Sale. ComFree's larger packages include signs, legal discounts and, on Guaranteed Sale, a photographer. Prices compared on October 5, 2026, before tax.

Can I list my house on MLS® without a REALTOR® in Canada?

Not on your own: only a registered brokerage can put a home on the MLS® System. A flat fee brokerage such as ComFree or Robin Hood Realty Limited, Brokerage lists it for you as a mere posting, and you handle showings and offers. Our guide to listing on MLS® without a realtor has the steps.

Is there a ComFree promo code?

We don't publish other companies' codes; check comfree.com for current offers. Our code FREEUPGRADE gives you the next plan up free: 3 months for the price of 2, 6 for the price of 3, or MAX for the price of 6.

Do both put my home on realtor.ca?

Yes. Both list on the MLS® System, which sends listings on to realtor.ca. We list in Ontario; ComFree also lists in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Is RocketListings affiliated with ComFree?

No. RocketListings and Robin Hood Realty Limited, Brokerage are not affiliated with ComFree or ComFree Realty Inc. ComFree is a trademark of its owner.
